Mike and Renay began their ministry as youth pastors at Lavon Assembly of God and later at First Assembly of God in Rockwall, TX.  They were elected as Pastors of First Assembly of God in Royse City, TX in May of 1986, where they served for six years leading the congregation from 11 to nearly 200 in attendance and in the construction of a new facility.  The Powells resigned their Pastorate in June of 1992 to begin their ministry as missionaries with the Assemblies of God.  They served as foreign missionaries to Central Mexico until September of 2006.  While in Mexico, they participated in the planting of over 20 churches and were heavily involved in evangelism, church revitalization, pastoral/leadership training, youth ministry, and crusade evangelism.  The Powells also served as Book of Hope representatives for Mexico, were involved in Convoy of Hope outreaches, and they served as missionary representatives for a Mexican social/medical outreach ministry called Operacion Servir. They helped lead the crusade team that was the first to televise the gospel nationwide on public television in Mexico, and continued to work airing their crusade events in Mexico and other countries as well.  They developed a ministry to reach children in public schools, which was the first of its kind in Mexico.  Over the last eight years of their ministry in Mexico,  they began to work extensively in collaborative efforts with other missionaries and ministries  both in Mexico and other countries such as Suriname, Honduras, and Burundi (Africa), which was the impetus for the international ministry in which they serve today.
